Former Councillor willing to fill post of Deputy Mayor ‘for free’

'The Bull' says he is not scared to make a come back

Former Endumeni Deputy Mayor, Richard Nel, believes he has found the solution to the current impasse at the Endumeni Council where a Deputy Mayor is yet to be inaugurated.

The delay in the DA nominating one of their two elected Councillors to the executive committee has meant that a Deputy Mayor cannot be elected.

However, Mr Nel told the Courier, that he did not know what all the fuss was about.  “I am more than willing to fill the post of Deputy Mayor.  Even if it is a temporary role.  What’s more, I will do it for free and gratis.  No subsistence and travelling claims, no bodyguards, no free lunches.  Once they have sorted themselves out, they can put in someone else. However, if they don’t I am willing to stay on!”

While Mr Nel’s tongue was in his cheek, it does reflect the impatience residents are feeling over the stalemate.  He served as a Glencoe Mayor before amalgamation and has 23 years Council experience.  “What’s more, I am fighting fit!”

The DA hopes to finalise which one of their Councillors, Dr Isri Bedassi or long-serving Anthon Raubenheimer, will be elected to the exco by the end of the week.
