Newly elected Mayor of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Jabulile Membrey Mbele has promised development and transparency when it comes to service delivery in the second biggest municipality in the Uthukela District.

Making her inaugural speech at the first council meeting held last Wednesday, Mrs Mbele said that her priority was to create a positive environment for service delivery.

This includes a skills audit and filling of vacant posts within the municipality, a review of the Integrated Development Plan for both Umtshezi and Imbabazane and supporting employment, skills and education. The Mayor said that developing infrastructure to attract investors is also on the cards.

This, she said, will in turn boost local economic development and increase the quality of life of people.

“We want to work with the business people. We are aware of the bad roads, especially in town and Wembezi, which affects your business and we will concentrate on this. We will also be recognising and assisting people living with disabilities,” said Mrs Mbele.

In addition, the new Mayor spoke of obtaining a clean audit, amidst cheers and applause, while reminding ward councillors that monthly meetings must take place, which she will be attending unannounced.

“We anticipate robust debate but it must be in the interest of service delivery. Together we can build better communities,” she added.
Mrs Mbele also notified residents that a series of mayoral road shows will be held in the near future, this she said will be done with the intention to listen to the needs of residents.
