A fully developed foetus was found this afternoon (September 3) near the Shepstone bridge sewer line in the Acaciavale area.
Horrified uThukela workers stumbled upon the dead baby while attending to a sewer blockage in the area.
Police, forensic personnel and mortuary services responded to the scene.
It is believed that the foetus had been lying in open veld for a day or two.
Curious passersby looked on as officers and forensic staff cordoned off the scene.
