‘Umkhulu’ launches butchery training centre at children’s home
The centre will teach the children the basic skills of butchery work, which will go a long way towards helping them acquire jobs in the future when they leave the home

Today (September 9) saw the official opening of a butchery training centre at Môrester Children’s Home. The butchery aims to train children in the art of cutting up carcasses.
The training centre will teach the children the basic skills of butchery work, which will go a long way towards helping them acquire jobs in the future when they leave the home.
Manie ‘Umkhulu’ van Niekerk, whose initiative the butchery is, said that when most of the children leave the home, they battle in terms of finding jobs or getting into universities. In opening this training centre, they will at least be equipped with a skill that could help them obtain a job and make a living.
The butchery not only teaches carcass cutting, there is also a baking section that will teach and train those who are interested in the confectionery side of things.
‘Umkhulu’ further stated that whoever is interested in obtaining these skills, living at Môrester Children’s Home, is more than welcome to come and learn under his guidance.
