The Al-Imdaad Foundation participated in the Operation Sukuma Sakhe Cabinet Day in the Amajuba District, on August 31.

The event brought together 10 MECs and the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Willies Mchunu, for a day of distributions at high schools across the district.
The initiative focused on addressing the needs of female pupils as a conclusion to August’s Women’s Month activities. More than 10 high schools in the Amajuba District were selected to be part of the programme, including schools in oSizweni.
Schools visited included Isikhalisezwe, Zibambelani, Iphakamiseleni, Mzamo, Buhlebomzinyathi, Izazi, Nhlosokuhle, Thembaletsha, Sekusile and oSizweni high schools.
Each MEC was assigned to a school where they donated girls’ hygiene packs, new school uniforms, warm hats and calculators.
Needy pupils had been identified by school authorities to benefit from the distributions.
Project Coordinator of Al-Imdaad Foundation, Hassan Shazi said the pupils who received the items were very grateful.
“In addition to the items distributed to the pupils, Al-Imdaad Foundation also handed over five 5000-litre water tanks to needy schools facing water shortages, due to the ongoing drought. This will help address water shortages and sanitation issues resulting from the drought,” he said.
The Al-Imdaad Foundation team accompanied Mr Mchunu to the Zimbambeleni and oSizweni high schools in oSizweni. Mr Shazi said many of the pupils at these schools came from impoverished family backgrounds, with large numbers of orphans and child-headed households recorded in the area.
Mr Mchunu acknowledged the Foundation for its continued support.
Provincial Coordinator of Al-Imdaad Foundation, Abed Karrim said the organisation would continue its poverty alleviation interventions in impoverished areas, and its response to the ongoing drought in the country.
