The first Executive Committee (Exco) meeting of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality (KZN237) took place at the Imbabazane Municipality building in Ntabamhlophe on Tuesday, September 6.
The Mayor Jabulile Mbele wished Councillor Siboniso Vincent Ndwandwe of Ward 13 a speedy recovery after he was shot at last month by unknown assailants.
Again at the council meeting, there were rough seas about the position of Acting Municipality Manager Madoda Khathide, which was later resolved and he fully participated and gave fair and intellectual direction to the council.

A ‘whip’ is an official in a political party whose primary purpose is to ensure discipline in party members and to ensure that they participate according to the official party policy.
There was also the introduction of a new councillor, SM Mbhele who replaced Thabile Vilakazi, who has resigned. During a lengthy process of debates and division, there was the establishment of Portfolio Committees in which the Acting Municipal Manager Mr Khathide outlined the law guiding the appointment of members and chairpersons.
It was later agreed that nine members should be appointed to each committee in which the ANC takes five seats and other opposition parties share the four seats accordingly.
The Corporate Portfolio is led by Mrs PG Strydom, the Budget led by the Mayor Mrs Mbele, the Local Economic Development by Bheki Mlotshwa, Development and Training by the Deputy Mayor, Bhekithemba Dlamini and Technical Structure by the Chief Whip Nkosana Mazibuko. The MPACT Chairperson is Simo Ndumo and the Audit Committee will be chaired by Z Zulu.
After a long council meeting with commotions that later subsided, the councillors agreed that an induction program should be conducted. The meeting was adjourned at 10pm and everybody went home safely under the watchful eye of the police from Ntabamhlophe, Wembezi and Estcourt.
