DHS goes back to their roots for Heritage Day
It was a day to remember and an extremely fun way to celebrate our diversity.
On Friday, September 23, the learners at Dundee High organised a fun-filled hour of entertainment where masters of ceremonies, Mercia Papazaharius and Juwie Moola, kept the crowd on the edges of their seats.
The gospel choir, under the guidance of Mrs Madondo, performed beautiful songs whereafter a few girls showcased glorious Indian dances adorned in colourful ethnic attire. There were elaborate poetry performances by very confident learners who completely owned the stage followed by an opportunity to enjoy ethnic foods sold from various stalls. This was definitely a day to remember and an extremely fun way to celebrate our diversity.
DHS art tour to Pietermaritzburg and Durban
Every year our Grade 11 art learners travel to various art galleries in PMB and DBN in order to enjoy the incredible inspiration found in witnessing works of art first hand. The Tatham Art Gallery was one of the galleries that they were able to visit. It has had more than 100 years to work on its collection of regional and international art.
Collections include significant 18th century British and French artworks, post-Victorian British paintings, Lalique glass, oriental carpets and examples of work from the Barbizon School. Known as the Whitwell Collection, it also includes objects d’art from Japan, China, Russia and Persia.
Our young artists were able to enjoy local South African art works as well and found much inspiration in the works of locals. They thoroughly enjoyed every second of this educational tour and would like to thank Mrs Carter for her dedication to her subject – passion is contagious.
DHS athletes take part in the Michealis challenge
On Saturday, September 24, many DHS learners travelled to Vryheid at 5:15am to take part in the 10km trail run and 20km mountain bike race. The learners thoroughly enjoyed the day and returned exhausted and ready for another challenge.
