Bowls winners keep it in the family

There has to be a winner and this year, Hyper kept it in the family with the team of VJ Singh, Donovan Fischer and Fran Baleri

What a fantastic day Saturday turned out to be! The weather was beautiful and almost three greens were full.

The Hyper Packaging day was very well supported, with 26 teams from all over entering. The format was two games of 12 ends and one game of 15 ends. We had some very experienced bowlers and some new bowlers participating, and the standard of bowls played was very high.

With the sun shining and the music playing, the atmosphere was one of “let’s have a good, fun and relaxing day”!

After the first 12 ends, the bowlers were treated to a wonderful spread of eats to accompany their refreshments. After the second game of 12 ends, the bowlers were then given a lovely lunch. All the eats for the day were prepared and cooked by Dillon and Brett from Lorenzo’s Sports Bar and sponsored by Hyper Packaging. “Thank you” does not seem adequate to express how much this day was appreciated by all the bowlers, and visitors, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

After the final game of 15 ends, snacks were there for the bowlers to enjoy, along with their thirst quenchers, and then it was prize-giving. Hyper Packaging and its sponsors gave out 10 prizes, with the 10th prize being the sportsman prize – the team that played the most bowls. The first nine teams received a prize. That was very unexpected, but very happily accepted!

As always, there has to be a winner and this year, Hyper kept it in the family with the team of VJ Singh, Donovan Fischer and Fran Baleri. In second place was Bertus van der Westhuizen, Jimmy Nel and Peter Scott; and in third Andre Vivier, Pierre Swart and Diana Nel.

A very eventful and thoroughly enjoyable Heritage Day was had by all!

A few of us were fortunate enough to pop down to Hilton on Friday and spent a lovely couple of hours with Eric Robinson. It was wonderful to find him in high spirits and feeling very positive. Eric sent a letter of thanks for all the good wishes with Liz, which Eros read out to all the bowlers and this also helped make the day so special.

“See you on the greens!”
