uThukela announces water contractor in Mangweni

uThukela District Municipality Deputy Mayor NW Sibiya, accompanied by Exco member Cllr M Khumalo and Ward Councillor Madinane, last Thursday introduced the contractor to install water pipes (bulk and reticulation) at Mangweni under Alfred Duma Local Municipality in Ward 7.

More than 30 temporary job opportunities are expected to be created and 4036 households will benefit from the project in the area. This is being done in an attempt to tackle water scarcity in the area, which is a problem that has been experienced for quite some time.

Cllr Madinane is grateful that the district has come to the rescue of the people. He also thanked the district deputy mayor for everything they do to develop the Mangweni area, including the people residing within its boundaries. “Even though we witness development in our area, it would not be enough until it reaches entire communities,” said Cllr Madinane.

The deputy mayor assured the audience that service delivery programmes have started in some areas. She told the audience that waterworks take a long time to complete, so people need to be patient.

“We are bringing this project here because it is our aim to bring potable water to the community. We are here to introduce a contractor which is ready to start work soon.

“The project will also create temporary jobs for the locals,” said Deputy Mayor Sibiya.

R16,585,129.60 million has been pumped into the project, which will take up to 12 months to complete.

The deputy mayor also urged people to report any problems they encounter with water tankers in the area so it can be given the attention it deserves.
