ER24 Newcastle paramedic, Margery Meijerink made sure Mr Gunther got to see the ocean for the first time in 35 years.

NEWCASTLE – ER24 Durban helped turn 84-year-old Newcastillian, Dirk Gunther’s dream into a reality with a visit to the beach.

Mr Gunther was transferred to a Durban hospital at the weekend, and mentioned to paramedics that he wished to see the ocean, as he had not seen it in 35 years.

Margery Meijerink, from ER24 Newcastle, reportedly said she would do her best to grant him his wish.

However, weather conditions did not allow the trip to the beach.

Determined to help Mr Gunther, Mrs Meijerink arranged with ER24 Durban Branch Manager, Jannes Prinsloo to assist in helping grant Mr Gunther’s wish.

Before Mr Gunther was transferred back to Newcastle, Lucas Nzimande and Shaun Naidoo from ER24 Durban, stopped at the beach, allowing Mr Gunther to experience what he had missed out on over the years.
