Update: Police name men killed in deadly attacks

The 4 deceased have been linked to the warring Mabaso and Gamede clans

The three men who were riddled with bullets on Monday night (October 10) in the Emcitsheni area of Ezakheni, close to Ladysmith, are believed to be from the Mabaso taxi clan.

Two of the victims have been identified as 18-year-old Siyanda Mbatha and 22-year-old Mqonbisi Lucky Mabaso. The 23-year-old has not been identified as yet.

They were in a homestead when a heavily-armed group of gunmen burst in and opened fire.

Ezakheni detectives are investigating a case of murder.

On Sunday night (October 9), 49-year-old Delani Lushaba was ambushed and murdered at the intersection of Fairclough Road and Ben Schoeman Street. This murder is also believed to be linked to taxi violence.

The number of dead in local ongoing taxi wars has passed the 100 mark in the last few years, and is still climbing.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Mxolisi Kauda is in town and currently holding a closed meeting to bring peace to the area in the wake of the latest killings.
