It was later confirmed that one of the firearms had been stolen from the Bergville Police Station.
Three criminals have been taken off the streets thanks to the vigilance of three Dundee policemen.
A fourth man is still on the run.
A crime prevention patrol in the Colley Street area of extension 18, in the early hours of last Monday, spotted what appeared to be a ‘suspicious’ Newcastle registered Toyota Corolla parked on the side of the road with four occupants.
The three policemen, Detective Warrant Officer R Beharie and Sergeants DB Zungu and M Kemp, approached the vehicle and Warrant Officer Beharie noticed that two of the men on the backseat were attempting to conceal what appeared to be a firearm with a long wooden butt.
Warrant Officer Beharie immediately retreated and called for backup.
With more police on the scene, the vehicle was again approached and searched.
One 9mm Beretta pistol was confiscated along with 14 rounds of ammunition, one modified shotgun and other implements used in house and business robberies.
Three of the men in the car were arrested while a fourth managed to evade arrest and a manhunt is continuing.
Mxolisi Masondo (21), Siphelelo Nzuza (24) and Bongani Mlambo (25) have all appeared in Court and will appear again this Wednesday.
They have been charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal ammunition. It was later confirmed that one of the firearms had been stolen from the Bergville Police Station.
