Police warn: be vigilant of bogus firearm training colleges
Applicants who have certificates issued before 2014 are required to be in possession of their SASSETA certificate, with their training certificate, in order to apply.

Since there has been an increase in the issuing of fraudulent firearm training certificates, the SAPS has now changed its requirements:
All training institutions need to be accredited with PFTC, which is a controlling body over training providers, and they will be responsible for the issuing of statements of results.
In the light of this, it has become a requirement that all individuals that require to apply for a competency certificate must make use of an institution that is accredited with the PFTC to receive a statement of results.
No applications will be accepted if this requirement is not met.
Applicants who have certificates issued before 2014 are required to be in possession of their SASSETA certificate, with their training certificate, in order to apply.
