Young scientist scoops awards and scholarship

The young scientist won the ‘Best Aerospace Project’, ‘Colours of Creation’ award, ‘Best PDI Project’, ‘Best Project’ in the category, a gold medal, a Siemens award and a scholarship to study at Stellenbosch University

Participating in the IFS Science Expo, Colenso learner Sanele Hlongwane managed to scoop six awards and a scholarship. Sanele goes to Dr Joseph Shabalala Secondary School (previously Klipriver High School) in Ladysmith.
The IFS Science Expo was held at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg and OR Tambo Conference Centre from October 4 to 7. Sanele’s project, entitled ‘Cheaper Solid State Rocket Fuel’, focused on finding a cheaper alternative to Hydrazine which is the fuel used in rockets.
The young scientist won the ‘Best Aerospace Project’, ‘Colours of Creation’ award, ‘Best PDI Project’, ‘Best Project’ in the category, a gold medal, a Siemens award and a scholarship to study at Stellenbosch University.
He has been short-listed to participate in the International Science Fair overseas. Well done to Sanele for making his school and town proud!
