The academic prize giving ceremony is a prestigious event that everyone looks forward to every year. Sarel Cilliers honours learners who have worked hard, rendered services to the school, and showed versatility and character.
New prefects are announced as well. This year the evening had a sad note as we said goodbye to Mr Majola, who has always supported our school and attended every prize giving since 2007.
He has been transferred to the Head Office in Pietermaritzburg to take up a new position as the Director for Rural Academic Support. The school wishes him well in his new endeavours and hope to still hear from him occasionally.
In making sure that he does not forget Sarel Cilliers, he has presented a Sarel Cilliers blazer that he can wear whenever he visits the school. Mr Majola was taken completely by surprise as he was handed the school blazer. It was an emotional moment for him and the school.

Mr Majola’s addressed the following topics: one cannot separate one’s actions from the consequences, so one must decide wisely how to act; secondly, he made it clear that good intentions are never rewarded – only action is; lastly he encouraged parents to be involved in their children’s lives and to show them love and support.
The top awards were for the Dux student, the Ambassador, and then the hostel and school prefects.
This year it was decided to award two Dux prizes: Tanya Loubser is the Dux for a learner without pure Mathematics, and Franci-Mari Gregory is the Dux for a learner with pure Mathematics. The Ambassador’s trophy went to Kevin Johnson who really astounded everyone with his versatility and impressive achievements throughout his high school career.

Congratulations to the new leaders and all the learners who excelled in academics. May 2017 bring even more inspiration, hard work, determination and spirit. The school would like to especially thank the members. Thank you also to all the staff who made the evening possible and hosted a truly great evening.

Choristers selected for the NKZN Youth Choir
On September 16, some members of our school choir stood nervously outside the classroom where the auditions for the NKZN youth choir were about to take place. After a week it was announced that Lesedi Khumalo and Pearl Xaba were selected to attend the Youth Choir camp that was to be held at Horseshoe Guest Farm in Normandien on October 14. On their return to school they were happy to have been part of the experience and could not stop talking about how great the weekend filled with music was.

Now they anxiously await an e-mail announcing the selection of learners who will attend the second camp and be part of the youth choir for 2017. It is with great pleasure that the school congratulates both learners for being selected. The school is very proud of you. The school wishes you good luck for next year.
