Estcourt Animal Shelter says thank you

"It's been no easy task naming everyone who contributed to the animal shelter over the past months, just know that we at the shelter are extremely grateful for your support"

Nearing the end of the year the Animal Shelter would like to thank everyone for all their support and generous donations. Throughout the year the community, businesses and organisations have assisted the shelter tremendously.

The Estcourt Animal Shelter team have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity and kindness shown toward the shelter.

It’s been no easy task naming everyone who contributed to the animal shelter over the past months, just know that we at the shelter are extremely grateful for your support,” said one of the shelter’s founders, David McFie.

In June this year, Ann Gray organised the very popular annual Polar Bear Swim in the Drakensberg, at which the Estcourt Animal Shelter was the main beneficiary. People from far and wide brought pet food.

Special mention must be made to Owen Sheftz from Wahoo Masters Swimming Club and the many members of the club who financially assisted the shelter. The funds deposited in the shelter’s account help keep the kennels up and running, goes towards maintenance and staff salaries and the contribution is greatly appreciated.

The Estcourt Animal Shelter team want to thank Mortimer Toyota for the fuel donation; Estcourt Vets for your on-going help, particularly Delon, locals who drop pet food off at their offices, Spar and Pick n Pay for the meat products – all your donations help the shelter save on their monthly budget. Humble thanks are further extended to Pietermaritzburg and Howick SPCA for keeping the shelter in mind when they have excess animal food.

Every rand put into the collection cans at various stores within town makes a difference.

“We would like to thank the business owners for allowing us to place these tins at their stores,” commented Mr McFie thankfully.

The Estcourt Animal Shelter hosted a collection day outside Spar and Pick n Pay during May; the success of the day was possible because of the community’s generosity. “Contributions made in cash and kind are appreciated, I want to thank the shelter’s committee, Graham, Michelle, Delon, Nelson and staff for their commitment,” added Mr McFie in closing

This Saturday, October 29 the Estcourt Animal Shelter team will be at the Hillside Shopping Centre collecting donations from the public. For further information regarding this collection contact Mr McFie on 082 905 4786. A raffle is one of the most recent projects underway to assist the shelter, which was initiated by Ish Juggernath. The raffle will be drawn on Saturday, December 10, the prizes include a flat screen TV valued at R7 000 as well as various other electronic gadgets kindly donated by Hash Hamraj and the Macksons family.

You have about six weeks left to you get yourself a ticket or two. The Estcourt Animal Shelter team thanks Ish for motivating this fundraiser and the generous prize donors. They further thank all those who are taking up their time and effort to sell tickets. For more information contact Ish on 082 401 0062 or David McFie on 082 905 4786.

The shelter’s contact details have changed, you can reach them on 060 9889 495.
