ANC not happy with ward committee elections

THE ANC has issued a dispute letter regarding the way in which the ward committee elections that were held in Ward 13 on October 17, were conducted.

According to the ANC, these elections did not comply with many election guidelines.

“We have sent a letter to the MEC Nomusa Dube kaNcube with regards to this matter as we were not at all satisfied with how the voting went. People that were not even from Ward 13 were bussed in to be part of the voting process,” said the ANC branch manager, Mkhanyiseli Mhlongo.

It is alleged that despite having informed community members that the elections would start at 11am during the week, the time was later changed to 1pm. This created a lot of confusion among community members who were prepared to leave their work places early in order to cast their votes.

“It was also unfair that IFP members were assisted in terms of transport while other people had to find their own means of getting to the venue,” said Mr Mhlongo.

According to the ANC, it would have been better if elections had been held separately at the different voting districts, namely Kwa-Bhanya, Mpofini, Hluma, Tholithemba, Inkamane and Esilweni in order for the community members to be able to vote for the people they know, instead of just being mixed together in this manner.
