WARNING: Heavy rains and severe thunderstorms forecast for Newcastle

Disaster management teams in and around KwaZulu-Natal have been placed on high alert.

Newcastle has been mentioned as one of the areas to be most affected by heavy rains and thunderstorms today, Friday.

Information received from the South African Weather Service (SAWS) indicated that  Nquthu, Dundee, Vryheid and eDumbe in Zululand are also cautioned against this prediction.

Disaster management teams in and around KwaZulu-Natal have been placed on high alert.

This warning comes after heavy rains damaged 220 households in the uMzinyathi district last week.

It was reported 11 people were injured in Nquthu and one person was killed by lightning in the Msinga municipality.

While the flash floods that swept through parts of Gauteng on Wednesday night has reportedly left several people unaccounted for, residents and motorists are advised to practice caution in bad weather conditions.
