Smiling when you donate your life-giving blood

Meeting this dedicated woman will infuse you with the enthusiasm to also join the ranks of ‘heroes’ who selflessly give of their ‘essence’ to save someone they don’t even know

You may have noticed her friendly smile as you enter the Blood Donor Clinic at San Marco Centre…

Yes, that smile belongs to 32-year-old Silindile Thwala, who is always willing to help whomever walks through the door.

Silindile has been working at the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic for three years and nine months now, and she enjoys every minute of it.

She was born in Newcastle, but matriculated in Ladysmith.

After matriculating, she went to Pretoria and studied nursing.

Once she was qualified, she worked at a hospital in Johannesburg for four years.

After that, she moved to Ladysmith because she wanted to be closer to her hometown, which is Newcastle.

She has one child, who is the apple of her eye.

Not only is she a great mother to her daughter, but she enjoys being around people and especially helping people.

At the local blood bank, she is blessed to work with friendly and hardworking staff who are always willing to help out when needed. “I love every second of my job. I love meeting new people and sharing the joy of saving a life by encouraging people to donate their blood,” enthuses Silindile.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) will be hosting an ‘O So Special Day’ on Wednesday, November 16, from 9am till 6pm. Donate blood and receive a token of appreciation.

The staff will also be serving something special to eat. So, come on, give the gift of life. Meeting this dedicated woman will infuse you with the enthusiasm to also join the ranks of ‘heroes’ who selflessly give of their ‘essence’ to save someone they don’t even know. Go on, it’s in your blood!
