The much anticipated NFWAA Streetwire knock-out competition casted off on November 6 at Chelmsford dam. Anglers were eager to wet their lines after a long layoff due to various religious celebrations and observances. Association debutantes, Endumeni angling club, were drawn against seasoned veterans, Riverside angling club from Dundee. Docrats were pitted against Chelmsford in C zone while Itec Freespool faced off with Glencoe in B zone. The fish were elusive during the early hours of the morning but they gradually came on the bite.

Many anglers believe that the welcome rains have rejuvenated the fish and this has contributed to the improved catches which are evident by the results.

Itec Freespool proved too strong for Glencoe and were victorious by a massive 103 points to 33. Endumeni were defeated by Riverside who reeled in 90 points to the 36 of Endumeni. The much anticipated duel of the day however was between the ever-improving Docrats and Chelmsford angling club.

Docrats won this fixture by a handsome margin of 31 points. Riverside and Docrats will fish the semi-final at Richgate Park and the winner will earn the right to fish against reigning champions Itec Freespool in the final. The cash prizes for the heaviest carp and barbel for the day were won by Itec Freespool anglers, Ronnie Rampersadh and Aslam Cassim Abdool.

The executive of the NFWAA congratulated the successful anglers and commended clubs for the sportsmanship displayed by all anglers in the heat of fierce competition. The NFWAA would like to take this opportunity to inform the angling fraternity, competitive and social, that Glencoe angling club will be hosting an overnight bank angling competition on the weekend of 3 – 4 December.

The grand prize for the heaviest carp is R30 000; there are however many more cash and other prizes on offer. More details will follow soon – watch this space!
