Top cop arrested on charges of corruption, defeating the ends of justice

The case was postponed to January 13 2017 for further investigation.

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Unit has  arrested Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Victor Mtshali, who heads the Dundee Detective Unit, for corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

Lieutenant Colonel Mtshali was nabbed on Tuesday after he allegedly demanded R10 000 bribe money from a prominent business woman in KZN in order for him to assist her in investigating a house breaking and theft, corruption, pointing of firearm, and impersonation of a mining inspector cases which she had opened at the Dundee police station earlier this year, said Hawks  spokesperson,  Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu

An entrapment operation was conducted and Lieutenant Colonel Mtshali received the money from the complainant and later returned it. Despite that, the Senior Public Prosecutor issued a warrant of arrest and he was arrested whilst on duty and charged with corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

Lieutenant Colonel Mtshali made a brief appearance before the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and was granted bail of R2000. The case was postponed to  January 13 2017 for further investigation.
