249 pints of blood and counting…
Melvin Fraden sits for an hour every two weeks at the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic as blood gets drained out of his arm; blood that goes on to save lives

Melvin Fraden is one short of 250 blood donations after making a trip to San Marco Centre this week.
As an A-Positive donor who began donating blood in 1987, he made his 249th blood donation at the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic on Tuesday morning.
Born and raised in Durban, Melvin first donated blood in the big city by the sea.
He moved to Ladysmith in 1997 and has carried on providing his “precious essence” to the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).
Melvin feels strongly about helping others and would like to issue a challenge to the public to also donate.
He sits for an hour every two weeks at the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic as blood gets drained out of his arm; blood that goes on to save lives.
“Come and donate blood today! If I can do it, so can you!” says Melvin.
One pint of blood can save up to three lives, so it is of vital importance that blood gets donated, as there is no other way to get blood to help those in need.
He says he has noticed a positive change in his body which he believes is due to donating blood. Melvin urges other people out there to also donate, as he says it not only helps your body but could also save another person’s life.

Isn’t it time you were also a “hero”?
