Local Players take top honours in Ladysmith

A RECENT badminton tournament saw Vryheid’s badminton enthusiasts taking top honours.

The tournament took place on November 12 in Ladysmith and games were played in A and B sections, with men’s and ladies’ doubles, as well as mixed doubles being played by players from Ladysmith, Vryheid, Newcastle, Estcourt, Pietermaritzburg and Amsterdam.

Edgar Beneke and Kayla High took second place in the mixed doubles B section while Johan Kruger and Amanda Petersen won the mixed doubles A section. Stefanie Schwartz and Amanda Petersen won the ladies’ doubles and Johan Coetzee and Stefanie Schwartz took second place in the mixed doubles A section. The top spot in the men’s doubles was shared by the two teams of Emile Diedericks and Ryno van der Merwe and Johan Coetzee and Johan Kruger.

Janè Petersen and Kayla High both received badminton racquets for perseverance.

Vryheid Badminton Club members get together at Cecil Emmett Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm to 9pm for practice.
