Vryheid’s finest nailed by Newcastle XI

TWO very one-sided Kingsmead Mynahs 30 over matches were played on Saturday.
The first was played between Mr X and Mondlo at Cecil Emmett where Mr X batted first and scored a mammoth 317/1 declared after 28 overs. Juan Botha scored an amazing 202 not out and Matthew Stride pitched in with 60 runs. The only successful bowler for Mondlo was Khumalo with figures of 2-0-34-1. The Mr X bowlers, in turn, demolished the Mondlo batsmen and bundled them out for 71 in the 18th over with only R Khumalo (25) getting into double figures. Mr X won by 246 runs.
Meanwhile, Dumbe batted first at home and scored a huge 309/4 against the Afrimat Gladiators with a superb 144 from Charl Beneke and 75 from Juan Freyer’s bat. The only wicket takers for the Gladiators were Kobie Marè (6-0-54-2) and Joshua Stoltenkamp (5-0-44-2). The Gladiators batsmen were no match for the Dumbe attack and were dismissed for 140 in the 24th over. The top run getters for them were Jackie Delport (36) and Andrew Vorster (24) with Zane Holiday (4-0-19-3) and Rupert Beneke (4-0-17-2) being the leading wicket takers for Dumbe. Dumbe won the match by 169 runs.
On Sunday the Vryheid XI played host to the Newcastle XI at Cecil Emmett on a superb batting wicket.
Newcastle batted first and scored a decent 302/5 in their allotted 50 overs with openers Arshad (114) and Sohail (81) top scoring. Jean Botha was Vryheid’s top wicket-taker with figures of 10-0-63-2. A well-disciplined bowling exhibition from Newcastle had the Vryheid XI dismissed for 149 in the 37th over with Clifford Dougherty (45) and Juan Booyens (34) top scoring for Vryheid. Newcastle won the match by 152 runs.
This weekend’s fixtures are as follows: Saturday will see Bhekuzulu face Mr X at Cecil Emmett at 1:30pm in a 30 over match. On Sunday, King Superstars will travel to Dumbe to face the home team in a 30 over match, while Afrimat Gladiators play against Wicket Wasps at Cecil Emmett at 10am (declaration).
The Vryheid XI will travel to Newcastle and play another 50 over match vs the Newcastle XI.
