Vehicle occupants bear the brunt of service delivery protests

"The car almost smashed into a house but instead collided with a light pole"

The occupants of a BMW were spared life-threatening injuries after colliding with a rock on the R74 Saturday evening.

The occupants were travelling from Estcourt to their home in Thembalihle when the tyres rammed into a large stone on the road. Upon impact, the vehicle overturned.

“The car almost smashed into a house but instead collided with a light pole,” said Inkatha Freedom Party Councillor Mthembeni Majola.
He says that the reason for the large rock was the by-product of service delivery protests, which has been plaguing the area.

An electrification project, which was started, has suddenly ceased, provoking residents to ask questions and when they were not answered, the protest ensued. He also warns motorists to be warned of petty thieves who blockade the R74 and demand cash from passing motorists.

Mr Majola calls on the local municipality to address concerns about the incomplete electrification project before more retaliation is seen.
