Michael’s miracle journey of 6 000kms

Michael aims to create safe houses for women as well as assisting those outside the safe house by promoting skills development and giving them access to necessities.

Michael van der Merwe is a perfect example that you can be the change you want to see in the world.
Unhappy with the way the world around him is going, Michael decided to take a stand and make a difference.

He then created the NPO, LOVEDEEDS, which aims to help women to become fully functional and happy members of society. Michael aims to create safe houses for women as well as assisting those outside the safe house by promoting skills development and giving them access to necessities.

However, the support along the road has been wonderful and there have always been people who were willing to help.

“Dreams do come true and I want people to know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.” To raise funds and awareness for his organisation, Michael is trekking 6 000kms across the country with only his bicycle and trailer. His journey began in Johannesburg on September 11 and will end in Johannesburg once he has completed 6 000kms.

When passing through Northern KZN, Michael had only covered 590kms and had already suffered numerous breakdowns and punctures along the way. However, the support along the road has been wonderful and there have always been people who were willing to help.

Michael is expecting to complete his journey within a year and is hoping to raise R5-million rand along the way. While this may seem like a massive total, Michael has found an easier way of looking at it. “If 250 000 people give R20 each, I will have raised the money,” he said.
If you would like to assist Michael or contribute towards his cause, contact him on 072 232 5645 or add him on Facebook under Michael’s Angels.
