Diabetes drive is a huge success

By midday 41 people had their blood glucose levels tested

The Estcourt Lions Club partnered with Sister Jenny Wreford to provide people access to free diabetes screening this past Saturday, December 3 at the Christmas Market.

The Methodist Church yard was abuzz with locals shopping around enjoying cupcakes, ice cream and more, the question was how much could they have?

With a prick of a finger, Sister Jenny Wreford had the answer to that question. By midday 41 people had their blood glucose levels tested, one of which was diagnosed with diabetes and was advised about treatment and further tests was arranged.

Information about diabetes was also available. Sister Jenny Wreford would like to thank the Estcourt Lions Club for sponsoring the diabetes testing strips.

If you have diabetes:
• Try to eat three meals a day.
• Space your meals evenly throughout the day.
• Eat them at the same time each day if possible.
• Make each meal more or less the same size.
• If you need snacks, make sure you don’t take in too much food each day. Choose low fat snacks like fresh fruit or low fat milk.
