Al-Imdaad Supports 16 Days of Activism in Emmaus

"The foundation contributed hygiene packs, wheel chairs, walking sticks, crutches and 100 litre water-wheelbarrows to assist with the drought situation"

On Friday, November 25, Okhahlamba Local Municipality kicked off the annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children with an event supported by the Office of the Premier.

The 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign aimed at building awareness and helping to combat gender and child abuse. The Al-Imdaad Foundation, as a social partner in combatting poverty, offered its support to Okhahlamba Municipality’s 16 Days of Activism event which took place at the Emafemfethweni Community Hall in the deeply rural Emmaus area.

The event was attended by various officials including KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Ms Nomsa Dube-Ncube, uThukela District Mayor Councillor S Mazibuko and Okhahlamba Municipal Mayor Councillor D Ndlangisa.

MEC Dube-Ncube addressed the community in her key-note speech about the importance of combatting gender violence and how the 16 Days aimed to create awareness that would drive these efforts for the whole year. Al-Imdaad Foundation Project Co-ordinator Waseem Mohamed said the foundation had assisted with interventions at the event.

He said: “The foundation contributed hygiene packs, wheel chairs, walking sticks, crutches and 100 litre water-wheelbarrows to assist with the drought situation.”

Mr Mohamed explained that the items will benefit elderly residents and other needy members who had been profiled in the local community.

The Al-Imdaad Foundation, as a partner in poverty eradication, provided this assistance to the Emmaus community to assist with the challenges of poverty and unemployment that they face. The foundation also assists with Phila Mtwana Infant Malnutrition centres in the Okhahlamba Local Municipality.

MEC Dube-Ncube acknowledged the Al-Imdaad Foundation in her keynote address at the event and thanked them for their continuous support as a social partner that adds value to the neediest community members.
