Dundee High matrics achieve top 95% pass rate

Dundee High helps lift the Umzinyathi Education District from rock bottom (12th) in the Province to tenth position

There were mixed moods when the matric results were released at local high schools on Thursday morning. The mood was ‘satisfactory’, to quote principal Rudi Haschke, at Dundee High School whose matric class of 0f 2016 returned a matric pass rate of 95%.  Last year, Dundee High School received a matric pass rate of 97.7%.

Top student was headgirl,  Siphumelele Gumede who netted five A symbols (English, Afrikaans second language, Life Orientation, Business Studies and Visual Arts) and Bs in Maths and Life Sciences

There were four failures. Top student was head-girl, Siphumelele Gumede who netted five A symbols (English, Afrikaans second language, Life Orientation, Business Studies and Visual Arts) and Bs in Maths and Life Sciences. She was invited to attend a celebratory event with the Education Department in Durban, representing the Umzinyathi District.

Zhen Lee Wang was placed second at Dundee High with six As (English, Afrikaans second language. Life Orientation, Accounting, Business Studies and Life Science and B symbols in Physics and Maths.

Dundee High matrics returned 57 bachelor passes which qualifies them for university.Mr Haschke believes that the class of 2017 has a good chance of achieving the magical 100% pass rate. We wait until this time next year…
