MUST READ: Police nab drug dealers in oSizweni

Due to SAPS increasing visibility during the next few weeks, drug users and dealers have been warned their activities would be carefully monitored.

During a recent operation by the oSizweni Police Crime Prevention Unit, a 30-year-old woman was arrested after being found in possession of 70 dagga parcels and a bag of dry, loose dagga.

The dagga has a street value of R6 500 and the suspect is expected to appear in the Madadeni Magistrates Court.

In a second incident, two suspects were arrested for being in possession of dagga as well.

The Madadeni Crime Prevention Relief B Group recently received information regarding a house where dagga was being sold.

Upon following up on the information and searching the house, the unit found one black plastic bag containing loose dagga, as well as five pokes of dagga hidden in the suspect’s bathroom.

The dagga had a total weight of 2.46 kilogrammes and a street value of approximately R3 000.

In the third instance, during an intelligence driven operation conducted by oSizweni Crime Prevention members, a man was arrested for being in possession of eight parcels of dry loose dagga and 24 nyaope Mandrax pills, with a street value of R2 800. The suspect is expected to appear in the Madadeni Magistrates Court.

With the recent arrests under the belt, SAPS is sending out a stern warning to drug users.

Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube, said with the recent successful drug busts under, SAPS would be working towards arresting more drug dealers and users. especially during the festive season.

“People caught in possession of dagga on December 22, will be arrested and appear in court on December 27.”
