In order to ensure that the education in an independent school is of a competitive standard, it is important that such schools benchmark themselves against other independent schools.
Towards the end of last year, the Grade 6s of Hamilton Preparatory sat for the Acer International Benchmarking Tests and the results were excellent.
In English, the average mark was 71% and five students achieved distinctions, with marks ranging from 83% to 93%.
The top student in English, Devjani Roy, achieved 93%, falling at the 98th percentile for Grade 6 pupils in independent schools in South Africa, meaning that only 2% of the entrants did better than her.
In Maths, the group averaged 68% and, again, achieved five distinctions, with scores ranging from 85% to 95%.
The top student, Muhammad-Amaar Meer, scored 95%, falling at the 99th percentile, with only 1% of candidates beating him.
Four of the pupils achieved distinctions in both Maths and English. Hamilton Preparatory is justifiably proud of these pupils!
