#ThrowBackThursday: Will there be more rain?

Measurements taken by the Department of Water and Sanitation, last year after the downpour, showed the water levels had risen to 54,23 per cent.

It was a bitter-sweet start to the year as water levels rose.

We look back one year ago, as similar inclement weather was experienced in January 2016.

Some referred to the rainfall as a blessing, while others faced the wrath of Mother Nature.

The downpour helped alleviate the drought of the months before, but some communities were affected as rivers burst their banks.

The Jordan River, which crosses under Kirkland Street, burst its banks last year.

At Ncandu Falls, towards Normandien, images showed a huge increase in flow of the river. This year a comparable amount was also received.

The rains have helped raise the level of the parched Ntshingwayo/Chelmsford Dam. Measurements taken by the Department of Water and Sanitation showed the water levels had risen to 54,23 per cent, and a slight drop to 53,99 per cent.

An astonishing 57.9 per cent was recorded at the Ntshingwayo/Chelmsford DamĀ for this month.
