Car smashes into wall, driver in hospital

Notorious bend claims another victim

A young man is recovering in hospital after the bakkie he was driving smashed into a precast wall late yesterday afternoon.

The bakkie, the man (thought to be 23-years-old) was driving, hit the wall after the vehicle lost control on the Dundee/Vryheid road, shortly after crossing the Steenkoolspruit bridge.

Witnesses said he was travelling alone.  The steering wheel broke in half – such was the force of the impact.  Police said the driver, who they did not name, is recovering in Dundee Hospital with a broken arm and other injuries.  The bend has been the scene of several accidents in recent years.
