While it is unclear what caused the incident, 13 people were injured. Nomcebo sustained the most serious injuries, as she was flung out of the vehicle when it rolled.

“I was terrified and asked God to please take over,” she said.

She fortunately survived, and was rushed to Madadeni Provincial Hospital, before being transferred to Grey’s Hospital.

“I suffered injuries to the C5 and C6 vertebrae and underwent surgery on Tuesday, January 24, to rectify the problem.”

The C5 and C6 vertebrae are the upper part of the spinal column.

Before going for the operation, she admitted she burst out crying when she heard the extent of her injuries.

“I broke down into tears and prayed. I then remembered a Bible verse which says “Do not fear, for I am with you. After praying, I had no more fear and actually looked forward to the operation.”

Nomcebo will be released from Grey’s on Friday, January 27, but has a long journey ahead of her.

“My family have given me so much support, but I have to be taught how to walk again.”

One of the biggest challenges she now faces, is the possibility of never modelling again.

Nomcebo has been taking part in the Miss Newcastle pageant since 2015, as well as entering national pageants and fashion shows.

“I am devastated because I love modelling, and the fact that my modelling was starting to take off made me happy, as I was starting to get recognition from people who were willing to help me climb the modelling ladder. ”

The reason her future in modelling might be in jeopardy, is from the side effects of the crash.

“I have scars on my body, a metal plate was also put on my hip, which won’t allow me to walk like I used to. I also can no longer walk in heels.”

While distraught that she might no longer be able to model, Nomcebo is determined to heal and see how she can reclaim her hopes and dreams.

Our prayers and well wishes are with Nomcebo at this time. Leave your messages of support below, and we will send them to her.
