An act of kindness
NO AMOUNT of giving is ever too little, this is the message local young woman Zama Xaba and a group of friends she met in Johannesburg, are set on demonstrating.

NO AMOUNT of giving is ever too little, this is the message local young woman Zama Xaba and a group of friends she met in Johannesburg, are set on demonstrating.
Zama, together with her friends Tshepo Sesioanna, Lebohang Ngubane, Sicelo Mlangeni, Lebohang Mokhele, Sibongile Mthembu, Boitumelo Moeketse, Sphesihle Dlamini, Origin Sengwane and Mpho, decided to do their bit to sow into a community in need by donating school shirts to local primary school Sakhikusasa Primary School.
“We got the idea when Lebo told us on a group-chat that Jet Store had a sale for school shirts. We all agreed that it would be a good thing to buy a few and give them to a school in need,” said Zama.
The group then made contributions and managed to make enough money to buy more than 100 shirts for the children at Sakhikusasa.
With the help of a start-up company called Plain Yoghurt Digital Solutions (a company that specialises in the creation, management and maintenance of websites) to help them raise the funds, the task proved to be smooth sailing.
“The name of our group-chat is Active Kindness and we have decided to follow this name and reach out to help where we can.
“We are trying to improve the lives of the people around us and to remind them that every little helps. This is putting the concept of Ubuntu to practice,” explained Zama.
Although the other members of the group weren’t able to make it to Vryheid for the official handover of the shirts on Thursday last week, Zama visited the school on their behalf.
In her presentation speech, the young woman encouraged the pupils at Sakhikusasa to carry out the message of giving and to always bear in mind that one need not be a millionaire to consider the plight of those around them and reach out a helping hand.
“We are highly grateful to Zama and her friends for this wonderful gift, it was a lovely surprise. Most of the children came back with their old uniforms and this is really a treat for them,” said the school’s principal Miss P Mbatha.
Miss Mbatha went on to say that the community was always grateful for any help as most of the people there do not work due to the lack of job opportunities and depend on grant money.
Members of the school governing body were also present and they too expressed their gratitude for this gesture.
“As the SGB we would like to extend a word of thanks to Zama and her friends for helping our children in the KwaVilakazi area.
We hope that God will bless them to do more and continue to help wherever they can.
Words could never fully express how grateful we are,” said Mrs MM Nwanyana of the school governing body.
Zama and her friends are hoping that the seed of kindness they have planted will take root in fertile ground and will yield many more good deeds.
