FROM new furniture, new teachers, right down to new classes, Harpo Primary School started their 2017 on a very high note.
Following the visit of the MEC for Education, Mthandeni Dlungwane, to the school late last year, the Department of Education quickly sorted out Harpo’s issue of a lack of furniture.
The MEC voiced grave concern at the lack of desks and chairs in the school and pointed out that, as a department, it could not afford to improvise on the education of children.
MEC Dlungwane closed off by saying that he wanted to see change in the school upon his return and the local Department of Education heard those words loud and clear as they set off to work immediately.
“The furniture started being delivered on January 3, and I am happy to say that we are now fully furnished,” said the school’s principal, Mrs Malibongwe Masombuka.
Mrs Masombuka said that she expects great improvement in terms of the school’s academics as they previously struggled profusely with keeping things in order due to the lack of desks and chairs for the children.
“We are highly grateful to the MEC for his intervention. Both the teachers and the children are very happy with their new desks and chairs,” she said in conclusion.
Although the school only goes up to Grade 6, Mrs Masombuka says that they have added a Grade RR class to accommodate children between the ages of 4 to 5.
The school has turned over a new leaf and there is hope of many great things to come in the future.
