Burst pipe leaves pool of water in Ladysmith street

Many people were seen filling up buckets and drums with water from the so-called swimming pool

A burst pipe in King Street has left a pool of water that flows down the road like a river.

The pipe burst last night (January 31), with uThukela workers being sent out to attend to the problem. Speaking to residents of the area, they say uThukela workers did come out and they breathed a sigh of relief, thinking the pipe would be fixed.

Residents were left without water since last night and found out this morning that the situation still hasn’t been remedied. They ask why the workers came out and yet did not fix the pipe. Even the tar on the pavement has lifted due to the pressure of the water pouring out of the leak.

Water was still seen flowing out of the burst pipe and filling the surrounding area like a swimming pool. Resident were angry to see the water going directly into the storm-water drains, and ask how this is allowed to happen at a time when water restrictions are in place due to drought conditions.

Many people were seen filling up buckets and drums with water from the so-called swimming pool.

uThukela was contacted again this morning and hopefully the leak should be fixed by the end of the day.
