Education Department launches sanitary pads for schools initiative

Department puts the needs of female learners first

The Department of Education in KZN has launched a new initiative, aimed at assisting underprivileged female learners with sanitary pads.

The project will provide sanitary pads to indigent Grade 4-12 learners in selected schools in the province, with the aim of helping reduce the drop out rate of learners in schools.

Many female learners miss out on school every month because they cannot afford sanitary pads.

The packs were distributed to 2992 schools in the province, which will assist the learners for the months of January to April.

Each learner earmarked to get the pads will receive them from the principal or an official at the school at the beginning of the month.

A second roll-out of the project will take place after April.

Stay tuned to our site, we will be releasing a list of the schools in the area that have benefited from the ground breaking project.
