Free sanitary towels for disadvantaged school girls
Each learner designated to receive the sanitary towels packs will receive them from either the principal or an official at the school
The Department of Education in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) has launched a project that will provide underprivileged female pupils with sanitary towels.
With this project officially underway the department aims as reducing the number of female school-goers who are unable to attend school once every month in South Africa including those who drop-out due to limited access or lack of sanitary towels.
This initiative will provide sanitary towels to learners in grade four up to grade 12 in selected schools. Up to 3000 schools within the KZN province are set to benefit, learners have been receiving packs of 12 sanitary towels from January and this will run until April.
A second roll-out of the project will take place after April. Each learner designated to receive the sanitary towels packs will receive them from either the principal or an official at the school. This project is a part of a R50 million investment made by the Education Department in KZN.
