Elswin pimps his ride to new heights

He has found a hobby in re-purposing old reflectors, radio aerials, car hooters and anything he can find to decorate his bike.

Transforming trash into a mobile masterpiece has never looked more beautiful.

Elswin Khumalo has taken his mountain bike which has served him for 10 years to new heights, and customised it in a unique way.

He has found a hobby in re-purposing old reflectors, radio aerials, car hooters and anything he can find to decorate his bike.

“I enjoy decorating my bike. It makes me happy,” he smiled.

The 60-year-old sifts through refuse sites and gathers his treasures to find interesting and creative ways to use them on his bike.

“I also collect second-hand chevrons and anything that looks nice, from odd jobs that I do.”

When he is not engrossed in creating an eye-catching model of a bike, this father of five runs a gardening service together with his wife.

“After work I spend time adding new pieces to my bike.”

Elswin said one of the reasons he embellished his bike was to improve visibility at night.

“When the car lights shine on it, it looks like a Christmas tree.”

With safety as a priority, Elswin ensures each adornment is secure and does not exceed the weight of the bike.

Fully equipped with a tyre pump and regular checks conducted by Elswin, this classic is ready to travel in style.

Decorated with old toys and tiny charms, Elswin is proud to call this bike his own.
