Singer Dez Rey’s sensational single to hit the town

NEWCASTLE – Singing sensation, Dez Rey has been in the music industry for seven years, striving towards stardom. Her angelic voice and poetic mind are immentalised in one album and two singles thus far.
Dez Rey was exposed to music from an early age as her father was playing in a band. She grew up singing in church choirs. Having worked with renowned producers such as Verd, Jeremy G Koeries, Leaveil Eaton and Paul Steinbeck, contributed to her success. She sings gospel, urban gospel, love songs and RnB.
She shared a wonderful childhood with four siblings, filled with love and music. They lived in Dundee, Glencoe, Ladysmith and Newcastle.

Dez Rey currently lives in Newcastle with her husband, Vassen Naidoo and four children, – Keanan, Nathan, Kezra and Jazz. She is back in Newcastle for a month after performing all over South Africa for the past four years.
She works as a retail store manager and admitted pursuing a career in music was very demanding and very expensive.
“I can’t help but sing. Music is within me and I cannot imagine my life without it, because music keeps me going on.”
Whitney Housten has been Dez Rey’s idol for as long as she can remember. Whenever she feels like giving up Whitney’s music always pulls her back to follow her dream.
“My inspiration for writing lyrics comes from anything; a word, or a sound – it is amazing. Sometimes when I’m in company and something happens to inspire me, I need to start writing instantly, because the words and music just flow through me.”
Apart from the wealth and fame that come with a successful music career, Dez Rey hopes to inspire and help young singers in KwaZulu-Natal to follow their musical dreams. “Coming from a small town and trying to fulfill my goals had taught me there are limited resources available to make a career out of a dream in this industry.”
Dez Rey’s music gets exposure on several local radio stations, and has been number one for weeks on some of them. She performs live at shows, concerts, schools and churches, and hopes to become a household name by putting herself out there and in the spotlight.
Life has taught her to be content with where you are in life, because to achieve anything, takes time. She believes enjoying moments of happiness will overpower minor setbacks.
She values her family. “The support and encouragement my family gives me drives me to want more and strive for more. I wouldn’t be where I am without them,” she said.
Dez Rey admires her mother because she is a strong woman who has been her pillar of strength. She is grateful her father nutured her musical talent since she was a little girl. Despite her many successes, Dez Rey considers her greatest achievement to be married to the man of her dreams.
Her advice to aspiring singers is to keep on believing, and ignore negative voices. “Always be yourself, find a job and work hard, because it is not cheap to follow dreams.”
