Youngsters launch Langalibalele Poetry Club

The Langalibalele Poetry Club aims to get youngsters off the streets and put an end to lurking around town on Friday afternoons

A group of aspiring poets met at Estcourt Town Library‘s projection room on Friday afternoon to share stanzas.

The afternoon was not all about reciting poetry it was also the official launch of the Langalibalele Poetry Club.

The founders Sambulo Zondi, Mhlengi Mnculwane and Jobby Gondwe warmly welcomed the attendees after which some ground rules were set for the poetry club. Some poems were inspired by democracy, others told of joys or pains and the rest were either jazzed up with beat boxing or a quirky act.

Thabani, the optimistic poet, had his audience hanging on each word he recited.

The audience was left amazed by the talent. The Langalibalele Poetry Club aims to get youngsters off the streets and put an end to lurking around town on Friday afternoons, and instead mould each one into a poet.

Poetry can be a fun way to deal with or express your feelings and ideas. When asked what this poetry club would do to avoid dying down, Sambulo Zondi one of the founders said: “We are hoping to help aspiring poets sell their work, teach them how to manage themselves as well as their poetic pieces.”

You are invited to attend the poetry club meetings as a poet or just to listen in on the poems, every Friday from 2pm to 4.30pm at the town library’s projection room.
