On Saturday the Umzinyathi athletics trials took place at Dundee High School. Sarel had 36 athletes in the Endumeni team and at the end of the day collected 26 medals.
It was a very hot day which is always taxing for athletes, but they soldiered on and some even managed personal best times or distances. The school anxiously awaits the Umzinyathi team list to see who will qualify for the KZN trials on February 25 in Durban. Thank you to Dundee High for the excellent organisation and to the Department of Sports and Recreation for the lovely banners and medals that were handed out. Sarel is very proud of medals obtained.

Athletics
On Thursday last week Sarel Cilliers High was invited to an athletics event at Pionier High School in Vryheid. It started at 3pm and ended at 8pm. They had to compete against schools like Ferrum, Vryheid High, Amajuba, Dundee High and Pionier. The competition was really tough, but our athletes prevailed, and some did really well.
When it was Mbuso’s turn to do high jump, almost the entire Sarel team showed up to support him. That is what team sport is about and the team manager, Mrs Heroux, is incredibly proud of her athletes. Thank you to Pionier for the invitation and for the excellent organisation. It was definitely a highlight in the season. The team would like to thank Mr and Mrs van der Westhuizen, Ms Pieters and Ms Zungu for being officials and being there to support the team.
