THE lyrics of an iconic Paul McCartney song rang true on Saturday at the Paddadam as the community of Vryheid proved that, “We all stand together…”
The first of its kind at the Paddadam, the market day was incredibly well-supported by the public and people showed up in their numbers to partake in the festivities.
“It was so good to see the support from the community,” wrote Maggie Steyn. “I would love to see more food market stalls – fresh veggies, freshly baked homemade breads, pecan nuts, honey etc. Wonderful!”
With so many different stalls to choose from, the Paddadam Market Day was a resounding success, despite main organiser of the event, Marlize Harmse, pulling it off without a hitch on the same day as her wedding (see page 15).
Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch joined forces with Vryheid SPCA and booked a stall for the day, selling curry and rice, following the overwhelming public support of their last hamburger sale and the community did not disappoint, with the curry and rice being sold out as early as 11am.
But the guys and girls of both organisations who pitched in to help did not let that stop them, as they set up their braais and set about selling boerewors rolls to hungry patrons.
“Every person I spoke to, said that they are booking for next month,” wrote Sue Dewar on social media.
“Looks as though this is going to become a regular event in Vryheid. First Saturday of every month…”
The Paddadam Market proved to be a fantastic day of fun in the sun for the entire family and the day went off without incident as locals supported other locals who booked stalls to sell their goods.
“A huge thank you to the organisers for this fantastic day,” added Sue Dewar. “I could not help noticing, that there was not one paper lying around at 3pm, in spite of more than 600 people visiting this event today. Well done, Vryheid!”
