Reunion plans are coming together

Already, numerous locals and ex-pats have expressed interest.

Plans for a mass reunion are forging ahead.

As chairman of the ad hoc reunion committee, Trevor Smith said between 350 and 400 former Newcastle Senior Primary and Newcastle High learners are interested in renewing old friendships.

This means the committee is going ahead with the reunion on March 11.

Pupils and teachers of NHS and NSPS up until the year 1980 are welcome, and must confirm their attendance by March 1 at the latest for catering purposes.

Already, numerous locals and ex-pats have expressed interest.

“There are many people who contributed considerably to the development of Newcastle, who have confirmed they will be there.”

The venue remains Lentevlei Farm, just outside Newcastle on the R34 Memel Road.

Although deemed an informal gathering, the starting time for proceedings is 10am, with a bring-and-braai from about 2.30pm.

After the braai, guests can ‘kuier’ until late.

Former learners can confirm attendance via email: nhsreunion2017@gmail.com, and should provide a contact number, what year they matriculated and any accommodation requirements.

They will also have to bring a picnic basket and utensils, but sides will be provided.

In the email, learners can also request to become part of the reunion WhatsApp group, or alternatively, contact Mr Smith on 083 625 9656.

“We also welcome class reunions to be part of the mass reunion,” he concluded.
