Finnemore Street residents evacuated

Burst riverbank results in Finnemore Street being flooded.

The riverbank running past Finnemore Street, Paradise has burst and flooded nearby houses.

Residents are being evacuated and taken to places of safety.

“People are being taken to Fairleigh Hall, where they can spend the night. Mattresses will be provided,”said Mark Jacobs of Two Eagles Security.

Cllr Bertie Meiring has encouraged that those who are able, should go to Fairleigh Hall as soon as possible.

Those who need assistance are urged to contact the Protection Services on 034 312 84700.

“Residents in the area have also helped by taking people in for the night,” Mr Jacobs said.

Indus Street and St Thomas Street have also been affected by the burst riverbank.

Residents are encouraged to be cautious.
