They were followed by the Saaiboere (dressed in green) trying to outsing their opponents. Horses and a steer, as well as a tractor, were also used for the occasion!

The competition was stiff at Landbou’s annual Interhouse athletics meeting. The pavilion was empty as all the students were on the field or track accumulating points for their team. There was even some time for laughs with the “sunglasses brigade” doing all items with sunglasses. Those grade 12 boys created a memory to be shared with family and friends in years to come.

The Saaiboere were victorious with 1024 points. The Veeboere won the spirit cup because they did not stop singing.

The following learners were the best of the best: Victrix Ludorum (junior): Nozuzonhle Kubheka (gr 8), Victor Ludorum (junior: Sandiso Zungu (gr 8), Victrix Ludorum (senior): Nomvuyo Maseko (gr 11), Victor Ludorum (senior): BongokuhleNkosi (gr 11).

The learner who participated in everything and was awarded “Most deserving”, was Sandile Gumede (gr 8). Nozuzenhle Kubheka achieved the most SASOL points for the 100m for under 14 girls.

On February 8, our athletes will compete at VHS’ relay event. We are all looking forward to this exciting event.

Three of our teachers are at a SAALOV meeting in Douglas in the Northern Cape. SAALOV is a meeting for all the agricultural schools in the country.

In the meantime, the ‘ossies’ are being tamed and trained and fed and we hope that this year’s Royal Show will show the quality of Landbou again!
