Update: Search for Ladysmith boy’s body called off until tomorrow
Rough water and treacherous conditions prompted police to put the search on hold for now

Since Saturday (February 25), Ladysmith K9 Search & Rescue and other emergency personnel have been searching the Klip River between Steadville and Ezakheni after an 11-year-old boy was reported to have been swept away by strong currents.
The search resumed today (February 27), but rough water and treacherous conditions prompted police to put the search on hold for now. Police will resume their efforts again tomorrow.

An appeal is made for members of the community not to attempt to cross or swim in rivers that are in flood. Even water that is ankle-deep can be dangerous to cross due to strong-flowing currents.
The risk of flash floods is also great at this time, with the prevailing rainy conditions, so parents and guardians should warn children to stay away from rivers and streams.
They should also be discouraged from playing along the banks of rivers and streams.
