Cycling 3 000km for education

As part of raising awareness around the needs of basic education in South Africa, stationery packs and school bags were donated to 40 vulnerable and underprivileged learners

#Riding4SAeducation took off on February 7 from the Musina border post in Limpopo. Recreational cyclist, Azhar Vadi, is riding from Limpopo to Cape Point, which is about 3 000km to expand his commitment to South African education.

Azhar Vadi, is the founder of Salaamedia, and he will pass through approximately 50 towns and cities along the route. Last Tuesday Azhar Vadi stopped in Estcourt and together with the Al-Imdaad Foundation visited Estcourt Primary School.

The learners and educators welcomed the Salaam Foundation, Salaamedia and the Al-Imdaad Foundation. As part of raising awareness around the needs of basic education in South Africa, stationery packs and school bags were donated to 40 vulnerable and underprivileged learners.

Azhar Vadi encouraged the learners to respect their educators, work hard and look after their school as part of their contribution to help support other impoverished learners through their early years of education.

Estcourt Primary School Principal Mrs Lambert congratulated Azhar Vadi on his accomplishments and wished him all the best on the rest of his route. #Riding4SAeducation will end in the Western Cape by mid-March. For daily training updates and to keep up with Azhar’s ride follow @salaamedia on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
