LADYSMITH – A local businessman was shot four times yesterday morning, March 8, and is in high care at La Verna Hospital, Ladysmith.
The man and his wife had been travelling and reached the Escourt turn-off on the R103, when a car pulled up next to them.
Gunmen from the car, opened fire.
According to Newcastle Advertiser’s sister paper, the Ladysmith Gazette, the driver’s side door was riddled with bullets.

The victim’s wife was fortunately uninjured during the shooting.
Despite being shot four times, the motorist managed to escape by speeding towards the N3, taking the off-ramp which was several kilometres away and managed to stop at Shell Ultra City.
The suspects drove straight towards Bergville, while pursuing the couple.
At Shell Ultra City, police and paramedics attended to the couple.
The husband was treated for gunshot wounds before being rushed to La Verna Hospital, while his wife was treated for shock.
